BANK ROBBERY AT KALIKAPUR

Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas, May 20, 2022 : A daring bank robbery was committed today in the Kalikapur branch of the Allahabad Bank. The robbery took place just at 12:30 when the bank was relatively free from the rush of clients. The miscreants came in a blue Maruti Van which they parked just opposite the bank near a tea-stall. The tea-stall owner reported that the robbers were four in number and carried some iron rods. They overpowered the sentry, who at the time had no weapon with him, forced him into the bank and closed the collapsible gate from within. As the bank at the time had no clients, the robbers had no difficulty in forcing the cashier and the branch manager to surrender the cash at the counter and open the strong room so that they could grab whatever cash they found there as the manager reported to the police later. In total about rupees six lac was said to have been looted from the bank. It is surprising that though the operation took place quite some time before the public transaction was to be closed for the day, no outsider came to the bank and saw the gate closed from within. The dacoits took no more than just fifteen minutes to complete the operation and left in the Maruti after closing the gate of the bank with a lock they had brought with them. It is the tea-stall owner who raised the alarm that drew the attention of others and thereafter the police were alerted. The police are looking into the robbery, but nobody has been arrested yet. Incidentally, this is the second bank robbery in the area within a fortnight. Another robbery took place about ten days ago a the Sonarpur branch of the
