Super cyclone Amphan Lashes Coastal West Bengal, 300 Dead

May 26, 2020 : Along with the prevalent pandemic toll of COVID-19, there came a curse of the infuriated (ক্রুদ্ধ) nature, in the shape of Super Cyclone Amphan today. This natural calamity (প্রাকৃতিক বিপর্যয়), with its probable death toll of at least 300 people, pulverized (চূর্ণ-বিচূর্ণ) coastal North and South 24 Parganas Districts, Kolkata, Hooghly, Purba Medinipur, Bardhaman, Nadia and coastal Odisha. With its wind speed nearing 188 kmph, coupled with torrential thundershower, Super cyclone Amphan wrecked (নষ্ট) havoc by uprooting large trees to disrupt road transport and electric supply, levelling mud-built and thatched houses, electrocuting wretched people, capsizing fishing trawlers, killing cattle and livestock and flooding farmlands. The super cyclone has exhibited more terror than its precursors - Fani, Hudhud, Aila and Bulbul. The State and Central Governments have already organised financial grants, medical teams and relief materials for supercyclone victims' families and cyclone survivors, doctors and relief workers have been affected with Corona virus due to absence of mandatory social distancing.
